Best Practices Review of Youth Safe House and Shelters in BC

 

This review captured and offered a best practice analysis for all of the youth shelters and safe house in BC and included the development of a comprehensive literature review, qualitative and quantitative analysis using an appreciative inquiry methodology.

This review of best practices and identified challenges captures the themes most commonly affecting at risk adolescents in the Province of BC.

Expected Results included:

* Complete a comprehensive literature review of best practices in youth services related to homelessness, addictions and sexual exploitation.
* Complete site reviews and provide an analysis of data gained during site reviews for comparative purposes and to identify best practices.
* Complete youth surveys and follow up focus groups to give youth "voice "in the report to discuss their specific needs.
* Complete parent and youth serving professional surveys to collect and analyze data and give professionals and parents "voice" in the report.
* Complete a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the demographics related to the population served in shelters and safe houses throughout BC.
* Identify exemplary, creative and/or collaborative practices that fit with or exceed the conditions identified in the literature review.
